NOPA Member Scoular Celebrates New Crush Facility

Scoular Goodland Crush will connect High Plains producers to growing renewable fuels market.

GOODLAND, Kan., Sept. 18, 2024 – The National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA), the trade association representing the soybean, canola, flaxseed, safflower seed, and sunflower seed crushing industries, today joined member company Scoular at a ribbon cutting event for the company’s dual oilseed crush facility in Goodland, Kansas.

Scoular will kick off operations at the facility in October.

Once a sunflower crush plant, the Goodland facility will process 11 million bushels of oilseeds a year, toggling between canola and soybeans as availability and market demand dictates, and has created over 30 new jobs.

“NOPA members like Scoular are making huge innovative strides and significant investments to expand collective crushing capacity to better support domestic processing needs. It was an honor to join Scoular’s leadership at today’s ribbon cutting event,” said Kailee Tkacz Buller, NOPA President and CEO. “Scoular and the Goodland Crush facility are playing an important role as we look to expand opportunities for U.S. food, feed, renewable fuels and industrial products. Scoular is well positioned with a flexible switch plant to meet its customer needs. On behalf of the NOPA Board of Directors and Executive Committee, congratulations.”

As Scoular begins crushing oilseeds regularly its NOPA membership will switch over from provisional to full member.

“Scoular is proud that it will become a voting member of NOPA,” said Jordan Barry, General Manager in Scoular’s Renewables & Oilseeds Division. “NOPA is a key industry organization and Scoular is looking forward to continue to collaborate with them.”

NOPA members have collectively invested $6 billion to expand U.S. crushing capacity by nearly 30 percent relative to 2023 installed capacity to produce the meal and vegetable oil needed to meet the expected increased demand for food, feed, and biofuels.  Specifically NOPA members are on track to support domestic production of an additional 1.4 billion gallons of renewable diesel and biodiesel, also known as biomass-based diesel (BBD), by 2030. Unequivocally, the U.S. oilseed crush industry is uniquely positioned to feed and fuel our nation.

NOPA members now crush over 95 percent of all soybeans processed in the United States, the equivalent to over 2 billion bushels annually. NOPA aspires to soon represent 100 percent of U.S. soybean crush capacity.
