NOPA Applauds U.S. Department of Energy’s Recognition of Biofuels’ Positive Environmental Impact in GREET Rulemaking
U.S. Soy Processors Drive Environmental Innovation, Achieving 38% Emission Reductions
WASHINGTON, January 15, 2025 – The National Oilseed Processors Association (NOPA) today released the following statement regarding the U.S. Department of Energy’s finalization of the 45Z Greenhouse Gases, Regulated Emissions and Energy Use in Technologies (GREET) model which will open new market opportunities and pave the way for increased production of renewable fuels.
“NOPA is pleased the U.S. Department of Energy recognized the increased positive environmental impacts of U.S.-produced biofuels in its updated 2024 R&D GREET model and newly released 45ZCF GREET model. U.S. soy processors have committed more than $6 billion to enhance efficiencies across plant operations, manufacturing and transportation processes to improve environmental outcomes and drive innovation, reducing soybean crushing emissions by 38 percent. NOPA looks forward to continued partnerships with the soy supply chain to further enhance our commitment to environmental stewardship and lower carbon intensity in our operations.”
